International Nursing research priorities

There two are internationally well-known nursing research institutions that publish their strategic priorities in nursing research to streamline nursing research globally and to support the development of evidence based nursing.

In the USA, the mission the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) is to promote and improve people’s health.

The NINR launched a Strategic Plan titled “Advancing Science, Improving Lives” in 2016.

The plan focuses on areas of science in nursing in which the health needs are greatest:

  1. Symptom science
  2. Wellness
  3. Self-management of chronic conditions
  4. End-of-life and palliative care

The European Nursing Research Foundation (ENRF) is aiming at making the bridge between evidence and policy-making process. In Europe, the European Nursing Research Foundation (ENRF) revealed ENRF “Strategic and Operational Research Plan 2017-2020” (ENRF SORP).

Areas of scientific interest in nursing in the ENRF plan:

  1. Positive environments for professional nursing practice
  2. Self-care: improvement of healthcare outcomes in chronic processes
  3. Education and training of nurses in Europe
  4. Innovation to improve nursing clinical practice
